Robert (Bob) McCoy is the Founding Conductor of the Moorestown Community Band, originally known as "Bob's Bandits," and it was started as part of The Moorestown Township School District's Adult Night School in 1991. Bob McCoy had taught instrumental music in The Moorestown Middle School for 37 years, having retired in 1986. The original concert band had 12 musicians, many of whom had not played instruments since their high school playing days. Many musicians in the band in the early days had been Bob's students in their middle school days under Bob's musical direction.

In January 2013, Maestro McCoy passed his baton to L. Bruce Smith, Assistant Conductor, and Bob McCoy remained in the band as a clarinetist until December 2016.

L. Bruce Smith, Conductor, has added a Jazz Band component to the band, and recruiting recently has increased the size of the band to almost 60 players. Several additional concerts have been added each year, including a concert in the spring at our home- The William Allen Middle School- and concerts at venues around the county in the autumn, winter and springtime.

Mr. Smith has a music degree from Rowan University and a Masters degree in School Administration from Rider University. He served as a trombone/ baritone player and vocalist in The U.S. Navy Show Band on tours of South America and The U.S.A. and he has retired as a School Principal in the Delran Township Schools.

He presently sings baritone with The Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale.

Band Mission:
